Restoring Meadow, Marsh, and Reef (ReMeMaRe) Conference 2026
The call for abstracts is now open for the 7th Restoring Meadow Marsh and Reef Conference 2026, which will be taking place in Scarborough, UK on 8-9th July. The conference will unite restoration practitioners, government leaders, industry innovators, academia and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) under a single mission: the large-scale recovery of our coastal and marine environments. Join us to share knowledge, spark new partnerships, and grow the momentum and action to restore our estuaries and seas. The conference provides an energetic space to discuss and exchange knowledge with those at the forefront of the latest developments in coastal restoration science, practice and policy.
Conference Themes - Call for abstracts for poster and talk presentations - now open (deadline 20th April)
There are a selection of individual themes which will be explored across our four focus habitats: seagrass, saltmarsh, native oysters, and kelp. Abstracts are invited for both posters and talks that align with any of this year’s themes, including the overarching crosscutting topics such as source to sea, seascape restoration or the use of arts as a communication tool. Celebrating the arts as a tool for restoration!
Interwoven throughout this year’s conference is a strong emphasis on the use of the arts as a communication tool and the role creative practice can play in restoration projects, especially in raising awareness and engaging coastal communities.
The Environment Agency is calling for submissions that can help us highlight how creativity can open doors, spark conversations and connect with different audiences. We hope to showcase and celebrate some of these examples across the two day conference.
If you've used visual art, writing, music or other art forms to connect with people who might find scientific language a barrier, we want to see your work. Help us share any examples where you've helped bring the story of meadows, marshes, or reefs to new audiences through the arts.

Previous events
ReMeMaRe Conference in 2025
Building on the success of last year's event we returned to the beautiful coastal town of Scarborough to host this year’s event on 9-10th July.
The six themes of the conference were:
- Source to Sea
- Cultural Heritage,
- Restoring Together: Empowering Communities,
- Restoration Science,
- Restoration in Action,
- Valuing Restoration.
As well as the individual themes we had an overarching theme to explore. We heard from projects and partnerships which connect the importance of restoration to the growth of the economy, as well as to people.
ReMeMaRe Conference in 2024
2024's sell-out event was incredibly popular, attracting 300 people (17% increase from 2023), over 200 of which hadn’t attended previously! There were representatives from over 100 organisations, including restoration practitioners, Government bodies, environmental Non-Governmental Organisations, academic institutions, marine industries and businesses from across the United Kingdom (and beyond). We were supported by a record number of 16 sponsors, who were able to engage with delegates throughout the conference within an exhibition space, and we were joined by a sketch artist who brought an alternative view on each session.
The conference recordings can be found here, and copies of presentations and posters are available here.
