A Strategic Goal for the ReMeMaRe intiative is to source innovative funding through a blended model of public, private and third sector investment to maximise restoration activity.
Our Funding Strategy drives an investible pipeline of projects which is funder-neutral and can support public, private, or blended finance opportunities.
Some of the partnerships projects that have been delivered under the ReMeMaRe banner so far, have been part-funded through the Environment Agency’s Water Environment Improvement Fund* (WEIF).
The purpose of this fund is to support the delivery of the statutory water body objectives set out in the River Basin Management Plans through the Catchment Based Approach (CaBA) and the delivery of the government’s Environment Improvement Plan 2025 – to restore nature, improve the water environment and mitigate and adapt to climate change.
The funding is managed in each of the 14 Environment Agency Areas by the local Environment Programme team and will continue to support estuarine and coastal projects where funding and prioritisation allows.

3Cs- Championing Coastal Coordination
The work we are doing with the Championing Coastal Coordination (3C’s) programme is aiming to maximise benefits for coastal communities, and the environment through local coordination, engagement and the development of coastal champions.
It is supporting innovative approaches and varying scales from national, regional and local and is aiming to maximise learning opportunities.
We are working towards a more consistent approach to coordination around the coast with links into the growing Regional Marine Ecosystem networks and Catchment Partnerships with better join up at all levels around England's coastline, leading to better outcomes.
