The Bioinvasion Research Integration across Dynamic Global Ecosystems (BRIDGE) program announces a call for applications for the first annual BRIDGE training course at Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC), in Edgewater, Maryland, USA on September 21-24, 2026. BRIDGE, a network of collaborating networks, offers training to prepare graduate students and scientists for the next stage in their careers. This year's training will focus on "Detecting Invasion Patterns, Resolving Marine Invasion Extent at Scale".  Learning Objectives: 1. Build technical capacity by training scientists to deploy a standardized marine bioinvasions detection protocol (biofouling plates) in their home region.  2. Develop a global bioinvasions network by bringing together scientists from around the world.

ELIGIBILITY:  People actively working in marine invasion biology, including graduate students enrolled in a Master's or PhD program, and also post-docs, technicians, and scientists. Training is open to all level of experience; early career professionals are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to members or participants of a BRIDGE collaborating network.  Training will be conducted in English, with Spanish support as needed. Applicants should ideally have knowledge of marine invertebrates, seaweeds, and other marine organisms; professional perspectives on marine invasions; and/or current or future responsibilities for monitoring marine invasions. Endorsement by a BRIDGE collaborating network representative or other marine invasions leader is also crucial.

SCOPE: Trainees will attend a 4-day in-person training course at SERC plus 2 virtual sessions (2-3 hours each).  Trainees will have the opportunity to contribute to a group project, applying the skills they have learned.

FUNDING: BRIDGE will cover round-trip airfare, ground transportation to and from airports, lodging at SERC (5 nights), and per diem for travel days. Meals will be provided during training days.
