Abstracts from the talks are attached below.

The 2024 ECSA Focus meeting will look at the Estuaries and Coasts of North-West England, including both sides of the Solway Firth. The area covered will be the Ribble, Morecambe Bay, the West Cumbria Coast and its Rivers, and the Solway Firth including South-West Scotland.

Focus meetings cover a wide range of topics ranging from novel science to nature conservation, recreation and the activities of local special interest groups. The informal atmosphere provides an ideal opportunity for students and early career scientists to present their work.

The meeting will be held between 20th-22nd May 2024 at the University of Cumbria’s Fusehill Campus in Carlisle. The main meeting will take place on 21st & 22nd May and we hope to run an (optional) field trip on the afternoon of May 20th.

The Fusehill site is close to the city centre and within walking distance of Carlisle Railway Station.

For delegates arriving on Monday 20 May we hope to arrange a walk along the River Eden through Carlisle. The city has been seriously affected by flooding over the past 20 years so there are some interesting aspects to look at along the course of the river.

Programme - this is not yet complete - please see attached file for the programme so far.

Please note - A booking form can be found below. Also attached is a flyer for the meeting.

Offers of presentations and posters are still welcome. If you are interested, please send brief details to Andrew Wither who will also be pleased to answer any other queries in connection with the event.:.
